Jacob Ehrbahn, Streetchildren in Ulan Bator/Mongolia

Condemned to living in the street: Their parents drink, beat them and don’t take care of these children. But they cannot get used to a highly regulated life in the orphanages either, so they live in the streets and only periodically find shelter in children’s centers.

The police estimate that more than one thousand children live in the streets of Ulan Bator, but nobody knows the real number.

The Danish photographer Jacob Ehrbahn accompanied special units of the Adress Identification Center, a state-run center under the police department. They are charged with finding street children in order to identify and return them either to their families or an orphanage.
