This photograph was taken in Johannesburg in the bedroom of the boy wearing the ninja turtle mask. He was 10 years old and had drawn chalk faces on ninja turtles on all the walls of his room. “Other than the faces and the boy, I was very intrigued by the way he had arranged the marbles on his bed”, the photographer says.

The US-american photographer Roger Ballen started out as a documentary photographer and in the meantime has stepped over the border into art photography.
