in Athens, Greece ZUMA Press photojournalist
NIKOS PILOS began his professional career
in 1987. After a decade covering hard news
and feature stories for national dailies,
he moved on to shooting for major news weeklies
where he did numerous in-depth documentaries
on countries in conflict such as Israel,
Palestine, Lebanon, Romania, Albania and
more. In 2004-5 Pilos sent 110 days on assignment
in Iraq's red zone doing a series of human
interest photo essays on subjects ranging
from the rise in cancer rates among Iraqi
children, to the new role of Kurdish women
as police officers. In October, 2005 he
traveled to the earthquake devastated region
of northern Pakistan with the Greek and
French chapters of Doctors of the World.
There, he documented the unending flow of
wounded survivors and the teams of volunteers
who worked around the clock to help them.
Pilos is a founding
member of the Greek Photojournalist's Association.
Represented by ZUMA Press, his high-impact
photo essays have been published in top
media such as Newsweek, Stern, Focus, the
New York Times, Panorama and zReportage.com. |
