Born Somewhere
“Born somewhere”
portrays the life of children in 27 countries. The
Italian photographer Francesco Zizola spent more than
13 years documenting the conditions of children around
the world. Consistently, he visited their countries
which are drained by wars, such as Angola, Sudan,
Afghanistan or Iraq. His pictures tell us about child
labour in Brazil and Indonesia as well as AIDS orphans
in Mozambique and Kenya. But they show also how privileged
children drift away from their families and give an
insight into the life of young entrepreneurs and child
actors in New York and Los Angeles. The Jury awarded
this special prize honouring the exceptional commitment
Zizola dedicated to such a long term project of highest
photographic quality.
