Earthquake
in the Kashmir region
On October 8, 2005, a powerful
earthquake reaching 7.6 on the Richter scale strikes
Kashmir. It was the worst natural disaster in the
country’s history. An estimated number of over
80.000 people died and more than three million are
feared homeless.
Commissioned by the newspaper “Politiken”,
the Danish Photographer Jacob Ehrbahn travelled to
Muzaffarabat, Baladot and Islamabad. His pictures
of dead, injured and confused children tell more than
a thousand words.
Winter in Pakistan threatens the
life of children living in villages located on a higher
altitude even more. In the regions above 1.500 meters
it started to snow. Many villages will soon be completely
cut off from the world outside. Every second child
has a severe cold already. Malnutrition and bad hygienic
conditions worsen the situation.
