William was born in 1977.
His work revolves around
social issues (street children in the Philippines,
the Madagascan community in France) and
humanitarian concerns (the Darfur crisis,
the aftermath of the tsunami in Sri Lanka
and Indonesia…)
Upon completion of his
studies at the Centre Iris, William was
awarded a “defi-jeune” grant
and then the “Social and Documentary
Photography Prize” in 2004 for his
report on street children in the Philippines.
The following year, he
was commissioned by the Museum of Natural
History in Lyon to carry out an exhibition
on the Madagascan community.
In 2007, he won the Lagardère
Foundation grant, which allowed him to report
on the emergent fragile democracy in Kyrgyzstan.
His work on malaria,
exhibited on the Pont des Arts in Paris
in September 2008 has been recognized with
several awards such as the “Espoirs
François Chalais” for young
reporters, 3rd Prize in the “World
Press Photo” awards and 1st Prize
in the 2008 “Picture of the Year”
awards.
His photographs
appear regularly in the French press, most
notably in “Le Monde 2” and
“L’Express”.
